Shilshole Project Now Has 1,767 Names
On Sunday, July 18, we unveiled 900-plus new names of Scandinavian immigrants, inscribed on plaques mounted on 13 rune stones at the base of Seattle's Leif Erikson memorial statue at Shilshole Bay Marina. There are now a total of 1,767 names listed at the memorial.

1,767 names and counting: We're accepting names for one more plaque to add to the Leif Erikson memorial at Shilshole. Act now—this could be your last chance! Photo: ©2008, Kristine Leander.

Ship the Hard Way
A team in Tønsberg, Norway, is building a replica of the ancient Oseberg Viking ship discovered there in 1904—using only manual power and exact copies of Viking tools. It sounds like a boat Leif Erikson could be proud of.
